West Dallas Initiative (WDI), is an organization dedicated to empowering the lives of people, young and old alike, through education, relationships, enriching activities, and a variety of initiatives. It does so through the ministry of West Dallas Community School and other neighborhood outreach activities. In 1995, the West Dallas Community School, Pre-K thru 8th grade, was formed to provide academic excellence and a classical curriculum in a Christ-centered environment. The students have been highly successful with the graduates going to some of the top private and magnet schools in Dallas. In addition, outreach programs of WDI are touching over 500 people’s lives through programs that include: after-school enrichment, college scholarship, Good News Club, Eagle Flight, JAM Street, Summer of Choice, summer camps, sports leagues, and co-sponsored events with other community organizations.

Ongoing Programs

• Tutoring assistance throughout the school day for students that are experiencing difficulty or need some extra encouragement.
• Special events (field trips, Thanksgiving dinner, book fair, pioneer day, etc.)
• Summer of Choice. Each June, students of WDCS participate in a four-week academic and recreational program designed to enable them to strengthen their academic skills and broaden their experiences.
• Outreach programs.

Ways to get involved

• Tutor students throughout the school day (8:00am-3:30pm)
• Provide library and administrative help
• Assist with special events like field trips
• Summer of Choice volunteers (tutoring in the morning and fun activities in the afternoon)
• Child Sponsorship - 90% of each student’s tuition is underwritten by people like you!
• Pray. Be part of our Shield of Prayer program by committing to pray for one student throughout the entire school year.
• Shepherd. There are many studies and statistics that have proven to show that mentoring a child at an impressionable age makes a significance difference in the decisions that child makes. Shepherding a child is sharing your life with them, encouraging them in their gifts, and uniting them in a love for the Lord Jesus Christ.
